TEA TREE (Melaleuca alternifolia, M. linarifolia, M. uncinata)

The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and branches of the tree, over 100 different varieties of melaleuca exist. Oil is produced in Australia.

SAFETY: Safe at normal dosage. Classification: monoterpene alcohol

USAGE HISTORY: Used during World War II as a disinfectant and wound treatment. Used in Australian folk medicine.

PROPERTIES:

  • Internal-oral, suppository; topical; inhalation
  • Immune stimulant, treatment for colds, flu, fever, staph and strep infections, candida, viral infections, wide spectrum antibacterial including Krebs, entero, coli., proteus, etc. (Antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic)
  • Treatment for bronchitis, lung infection, coughs, tuberculosis, tonsillitis, ear, nose, and throat infections (Decongestant, balsamic, expectorant)
  • Healing to skin, useful for acne, athlete’s foot, herpes, rashes, impetigo, ringworm, wounds; may need to use undiluted for certain applications such as ringworm, fungal infections (Cicatrizant, antipruritic, vulnerary)
